Hello, my name is Polly Humphreys, founder and owner of Alternative Wellness & Beyond in High Point, NC. I welcome you to my Diabetes Educational Wellness Site. I’m a Certified Hypnotist and also a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant; be assured I am NOT intending to take the place of a doctor, dietician or mental health practitioner, etc. Being committed to client ‘total wellness’ and assisting individuals in making quality life changes for the rest of their lives, my intention (here) as a Certified Hypnotist, is to offer my hypnosis clients various, essential tools that help guide each person as they discern their true inner needs and desires - making them a reality. I also partner with my clients to create a quality life they previously only dreamed about. I provide them with resources and knowledge that lead to optimal wellness while addressing my client’s wellness concerns and other problem areas:

  • I assess each client’s attitude, beliefs, habits and lifestyle from a holistic approach; what we believe about ourselves affects how we feel about ourselves and our health - it can either overwhelm us or empower us. Hypnosis is an empowering modality, (tool).
  • My clients living in the greater triad area and from Boone to Wilmington, NC - (as well as out of state areas) understand that pursing optimal health is energizing and guides us to live life to its fullest.

Diabetes is diagnosed as a condition identified by chronic, high blood sugar levels. Whether you have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes or Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 diabetes, hypnosis can help you recognize problem areas that impede your wellness. You can effectively discover underlying issues and emotions that impede your health care. You can understand them and release them; via holistic wellness hypnosis, you can successfully change unhealthy subconscious programming, dramatically changing your emotional and physical well-being.

Stress is a major factor in the role of your diabetes; it can cause your blood sugar to soar. I educate my hypnosis clients how to proactively change their stress levels. They understand that being open-minded to positive change allows an individual to create a healthy and happy life. You can:

  • Achieve good diabetic control and self-care.
  • Make beneficial changes and increase the feeling of being in control of stressful situations; stress reduction will also help you improve the quality of your sleep.
  • Be disciplined in blood glucose monitoring, medication management, skin examination and following your doctor’s protocol or regimen.
  • Significantly reduce your unhealthy stress, increase your energy level, and make healthy nutritional choices; change unhealthy eating habits, increase your desire to exercise, stop smoking and maintain a healthy weight or loose unhealthy pounds. (Hypnosis is also utilized frequently to treat obesity and time and again after a gastric bypass procedure has been completed. Sometimes I am also asked to help people abolish their desire for coffee. Caffeine may unknowingly be increasing your blood sugar and stress levels).
  • Have a harmonious mind-body-spirit balance - a positive attitude, good health and happiness. Attitudes are powerful; a negative attitude can trigger a long-term stress response and a positive, beneficial attitude can ease or alleviate stress.

More than 17 million Americans have diabetes and approximately 90% of all diabetics are overweight. If diabetes is not controlled properly, the results can be overwhelming to devastating. The greater stress level a diabetic feels, the worse their health condition can get. Using highly effective stress management techniques combined with MD care can help reduce glucose levels. As a Stress Management and Wellness Specialist, I can help you or another diabetic you know – take control of their negative, unhealthy stress. When feeling stressed the average person often reaches for food as a comfort means; instead, imagine using healthy coping strategies, Emotional Freedom Technique and hypnosis to handle your challenges and control your stress vs. stress controlling you. At Alternative Wellness & Beyond, my clients don’t just imagine themselves doing that, it becomes a way of life for them. Triggers are stimuli that ignite changes in our behavior and cause us to react in repetitive, habitual and conditioned ways, often subconsciously. Triggers can come from an internal origin, or from an environmental cause, or may also be emotional or physiological; you can learn to respond to them in a positive - healthy manner. Understanding that their triggers can have a huge effect on one’s health and wellness, I help my clients learn to identify and reframe triggers that have been present in their lives. A study published in the December 2004, Scientific Journal of the American Academy of Neurology, reported that anger and other emotions may be triggers for ischemic strokes. At Alternative Wellness & Beyond, I will help you:

  • Learn to identify unhealthy, stressful triggers and develop strategies to overcome them.
  • Gain knowledge of healthy coping strategies and you will implement these tools, stopping self-sabotage. Before you know it, you will easily modify and manage your new beneficial changes. Hypnosis is a respected valuable tool - the AMA has accepted hypnosis since 1958. It is not meant to replace traditional medical treatment, it is frequently used as an adjunct with other complimentary and standard health care; because diabetes is a medically related diagnosis, I will need your doctor’s referral-approval before assisting you with hypnosis. I belong to the National Guild of Hypnotist, the world’s largest hypnosis organization - I receive a large number of continuing education hours yearly from the National Guild. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that will allow you to make permanent, valuable changes within your subconscious mind; (it is also known as your ‘internal computer’). This is the part of your mind where all of your past experiences and all of your beliefs, habits, attitudes and thoughts are deeply seated; your actions are determined by your inner beliefs. Everyone enters some form of hypnosis several times per day. Hypnosis is a means of communications between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind - bypassing the critical faculty - (the blocking part) of the conscious mind, and allows positive suggestions to enter and be accepted within the subconscious mind. Changes made via hypnosis, open your life’s door to unlimited possibilities and successes; with hypnosis, you have the ability to permanently let go of internal sabotages that do not benefit you. Hypnosis can promote positive change, help individuals’ master fears and release their self limiting beliefs that have impeded or halted their progress or goal accomplishments.

Many human deficits i.e., non-beneficial habits, stresses and emotional patterns can be traced to the individual’s interpretations by the subconscious mind. When these are understood by the conscious mind, it can determine, reduce or resolve exact problems that interfere with one’s everyday life and relationships. Because you choose to take control of your emotions vs. food, lethargy, etc. controlling you - hypnosis can support you, helping you to make and follow through with healthier choices. This powerful amazing tool can help you learn and sustain beneficial habits and produce healthier changes that lead to wellness.

People are discovering the secret - that permanent behavioral changes leading to weight loss and healthy living, are made within their powerful - subconscious mind, not in ‘magic pills’ or trendy diets. Hypnosis is not a ‘magic bullet’; for favorable change to occur, you must:

  1. Be fully committed to your success to receive success.
  2. Like the idea of ‘that change’ occurring and believe it will work for you.
  3. Take full responsibility for your outcomes.
  4. Be willing to take action to make the desired changes - put a halt to making excuses; and

When you see or hear something, what you decide, determines whether a suggestion is allowed to enter and be accepted or rejected in you subconscious mind. If you reject positive change, none will occur. The only time a suggestion is allowed to enter and be accepted in your 'internal computer', (your subconscious mind) – is if an idea or suggestion is believable, or if you have the mental attitude when hearing a suggestion, “I like that idea, I know it is going to work for me.” When you are in hypnosis, you are always in control and can emerge at any time. It really is that easy; you can:

  • Create change easily and quickly providing you choose to.
  • Attain your desired goals more easily with hypnosis because you are acting on new, desirable and valuable beliefs.
  • In the end, you will only make changes that you deem desirable. Providing you are committed to making desirable changes, your success rate will be very high; you will attain your desired wellness goals.
